About Imperial

Imperial/West Allegheny School District
This area is a diverse community with great neighborhoods for families of all ages as well as senior living. Imperial is part of Findlay and North Fayette Townships. It was established in 1879 by Imperial Coal Company. It sits on Montour run and was originally known as Montour City. Montour Railroad served the mines and the town. The town later changed to the name of the coal company and became Imperial. Current population as of 2010 was over 2500. The largest age group is from 35-54, with 962 people.  The other age groups from 21-70 are all between 200-300 people. 
Imperial is conveniently located to Pittsburgh International Airport, Downtown Pittsburgh, Bayer, Covestro, and  routes 376, 22, and 30. (all within 5-16 miles) 
It is also 15 miles from Heinz Field, PNC Park, and PPG Paints Arena.
There are plenty of shopping and dining choices in the area as well. Ikea, The Pointe, Robinson Mall, Robinson Town Center, Settlers Ridge, and The Market District are all only miles away and provide whatever you may be looking for from Major Department Stores to discount and dollar stores. You can find anything from diners to chain restaurants, to fine dining, to microbreweries to satisfy your palate.
For the outdoor enthusiast Imperial is near Raccoon State Park, Leopold Lake, The Montour Trail, Donaldson Park and The Pan Handle Trail.
 First Niagara Pavilion, Stage AE,  Heinz Field, and PPG Paints Arena, provide world class entertainment. 
Imperial is part of the West Allegheny School District. West Allegheny was ranked 6th out of 105 western Pennsylvania schools as of 2009,  and 23rd out of 498 Pennsylvania School districts. Graduation rate as of 2010 was 95%. (according to the Pittsburgh Business Times and the PA Dept of Education).
They have a strong athletic program as well as music and extracurricular activities. They offer  dual enrollment where high school students are able to take college courses along with their high school courses at deeply discounted rates. 
Imperial is also close to Pittsburgh Technical Institute and The Allegheny Community College- West Campus. 
The median listing price for a single family residential home for Aug. 2016 was $208,750, +5.4% from Aug. 2015. 
The median sales price as of Aug. 2016 was $215,000, +1.4% from Aug. 2015.
The median change in estimated value for the area is +2.5%.

Imperial is a safe and growing area that provides a lot of benefits for everyone. It has remained a stable community that keeps improving and providing for it's residents. It's a peaceful getaway away from the city, but still provides easy access to a city that provides arts and cultural opportunities as well as professional sports.
